Project Brief

Reflecting on what I learnt during my one year international foundation programme and three years of Undergraduate : Digital Media Design 3D Visualisation at the University of Winchester, I make sure what I experiences over the past four years.

Why do I want to reflect my uni lifes?

My university life consisted of one year on the English Foundation Programme at the University of Winchester and three years on Digital Media Design: 3D Visualisation.
I spent four years in Winchester, an idyllic place very different from my hometown in Tokyo, where I spent my days trying new experiences. I overcame days when it was difficult to understand other people's conversations in low-level English because I had never lived in the UK before. I also joined a society and became an Inclusive Rep in a group of international students, where I was able to act as a communication link between the members. The contacts and experiences I have gained here will be treasured for the rest of my life. It has also given me a great deal of confidence in my future and has created memories that will have a positive effect.
For my job search, I participated in the Boston Career Forum and successfully received a job offer from a large global Japanese company. I think this is what I got because I have studied 3D and communication in a business-like way at university.
These four years have been the most influential time of my life and I am glad I chose Winchester and put in the effort. Thank you for these irreplaceable days.

What kind of experiences changed my life at Uni?

Self confidence

Over the past four years, I have become aware of the diversity of people and the importance of assertiveness, and I realise that challenging yourself with confidence will produce results..

Diversity

During my university life, I came into contact with a culture completely different from that of Japan, made multinational and multicultural friends, opened my eyes to diversity and enabled me to see the world from a new perspective.

Communication skil

I was able to communicate across language barriers, make friends, learn English, which I was not very good at through persistent challenge, and create a place in the UK that I can call my second home.

Study x Business

Unlike my highschool studies, I had more opportunities to think about how they could apply my knowledge and ideas to business.

Why did I chose Digital studies?

New Technology Study for future work
I wanted to place myself in the most progressive industry in society in the future, from my university years, to equip myself with knowledge and use it in my future business.

English language study by digital word
A lot of English is used in Japan in the digital design industry. It was the perfect knowledge to learn abroad and bring back directly to Japan.

Business Communication skills by group work
The course has a lot of group work, and I thought I could learn design in a business like way, where we actually carry out projects for clients, and acquire the necessary communication and management skills.

Expression myself by design
I wanted to be someone who could express myself with my products and art, as I have a personality that loves self-expression. This course gave me the skills to express myself in every way possible, from 2D to 3D.

What do I get from University study?

3D skills

I am exposed to various 3D software such as Blender, Maya, CLO and Unreal engines and learnt basic knowledge of 3D.

Visualisation ability

I have acquired the visualisation skills to use diagrams as well as words when explaining something and to express myself.

Management

When carrying out projects in groups, I am able to assess the situation and think about what each person should do.

Variety design skills

I designed interiors and architecture-related projects by ArchiCAD. also I got basic coding skill by this website creation.

Graphic skills

I work for the basics of design, including bright colours and targeted theming, which is their forte.

English skill

My English has developed to a level where I have no problems in daily life and group work, and I have also acquired academic English skills through my dissertation.

Future steps

After graduation, I will return to Tokyo to work as a Project Manager for Playstation design at Sony interactive entertainment from 2024. This is the job I was offered when I went to the Boston Career Forum, and it fits my ideal of working in a job where I can utilise my strengths and personality while using English. It was also the perfect place to utilise my knowledge of digital design that I had learnt during university. I would like to continue to be involved in work related to global entertainment and contribute to society by making use of this experience of studying digital design at university in the UK as a Japanese person.
